This place used to be a korean restaurant named Sarang and I worked here for 1.5months before I went Korea for summer exchange program. It has quite a lot authetic and nice korean food in the past but the price was a bit on the high end. It end up closing in dec 2013 ...

After that, it was converted to KCook, korean bbq restaurant. The design of the restaurant remains the same except the fake trees are being chopped off. Great to be back here to try korean food again :)

Price of the BBQ buffet

Using smart app to key in our details and we can walk around the shopping centre instead of waiting outside the restaurants. They will send us a link where we can monitor our queue number. When our queue number is getting closer, it will send alert to inform. This is really awesome idea instead of blindly waiting outside the restaurant and wasting time.

It offers lot of fresh meats and vegetables. We can choose what we want to eat and start BBQ!! However, don't take too much and waste food!!

They also offer cooked food for those who are feel hungry while waiting for BBQ.

I strongly recommend trying this Korea pancake. It is really nice and crispy. I guess it is hard to find such yummy korean bbq pancake in Singapore. If it is a bit cool, can just heat up by BBQ for a short while. 

BBQ pork belly is always my favorite in korean BBQ so I shall start with them!! SPAM PORK BELLY :p

Looking at these bbq meats really make my saliva dripping!! The meats are really fresh and well marinated. They also serve Korean beer and Soju which u can try :)

Overall, it is really value for money and I really enjoy the korean BBQ. I would strongly recommend to come over and try this :p But do take note of the long queue during weekend so better to get one friend to go down and take queue number. We waited close to 1.5 hours before we get our table. Luckily, we can monitor the waiting time and walk around the shopping centre.

Mad for garlic

Mad for garlic originated from Korea and it was voted by Korea Times & Korea Herald as the Best Performing Italian Restaurant concept in Korea 2013. There are 2 branches in Singapore: one in Suntec and another in Clarke Quay. I never heard of it until my friends suggested to dine here.

It is really beautiful designed, modern yet comfortable and cozy for customers.

Garlicpeno pasta: $18.8
It is slightly spicy with just sliced garlic. It tastes good but just quite of expensive for a plain pasta.

Garlicholic Rice: $17.90
It is cooked with garlic pickles, shrimp and anchovies. I felt the taste is kind of plain as I expected it to have a strong garlic taste.

BBQ Chicken Ranch Pizza: $21.4
Spicy grilled chicken pizza with cheese, chicken and hot bbq sauce. The portion is quite big sufficient for 2 to 3 people. When I saw this, it reminds me of garden salad -.- Luckily, it tastes delicious. Wish that it is more spicy though.

Garlic Snowing Pizza: $22.5
Sweet Garlic Pizza topped with shrimp & pineapple dice. The waitress bought this pizza with the shredder and make the pizza start snowing with cheese!! It looks similar to hawaiian pizza except the ham is replaced with shrimp and it snows! It tastes great with the thin crust. It deserves to be the best pizza in this restaurant. Strongly recommend this over :)

Overall, it is really a good dining experience and they have good service. The waiter kept on helping us to refill our water without the need to request. The ambience is also comfortable and cozy. Great place to dine with friends.

The wicked garlic

It was quite of unpleasant dinning experience though the food are nice and affordable. It is really quite a small store with limited seating and there is no proper queue system. The staff told us to place orders first while they will reserve the next table for us. However, they totally forgot it and allocated the next table to the customers who came lately. We had to wait another 15 minutes and clear our own table instead. This is really ridiculous.

The menu was all in Italian words. The whole restaurant was quite of noisy when I was placing order and the staff made a mistake in order. Furthermore, it is a common practice for the staff to repeat the order after the customer has placed their order but he did not. When the staff served the "wrong" order, he refused to change even though my friend had not touch the dish. He said there is no other customer ordering that dish so my friend has to settled for that. I have worked in F&B for a few years and dined outside for many years but this is the first time I encountered such ridiculous thing. Luckily, the foods are quite nice and affordable.

Insalata Cesare ($4.7): Crispy bacon not really that crispy but I just love bacon. The crouton are quite crunchy, the vegetables are fresh and goes well with home-made Caesar sauce. It has a slightly sweet taste which is just nice for me.

Apple Pie ($5.7): It remind me of Macdonald yummy apple pie so I decided to give it a try. I expected it to have a strong sweet apple taste but it is just a normal coffee with slight apple taste. Kind of disappointing.

Spaghetti Alla Carbonara ($8.7): The portion is just nice for one person. The sauce is the most essence of the dish. If it is too creamy, it will make people feel sick and unable to finish the whole portion. This has the right texture and yummy bacon. My friends ordered Ling Nero Di Seppia ($8.7) is squid ink pasta which is nice but always leave the person with black lips and teeth... Another friend who had the wrong order "Penne Al Griglia Pollo ($10.7)" which consists of grilled chicken tossed with Penne in Pesto Cream sauce. It does not look appealing and taste quite normal.

Overall, it is quite a nice place if you want to have affordable and nice Italian cuisine but do not expect much from the service.

My friends and I never heard of this restaurant until it was one of the sponsor for our NTU SPMS D&D. We won some vouchers during the games and decided to give the restaurant a visit. Initially, I didn't have intend to blog about this as I think it is just another restaurant and I didn't bring my camera along. Upon arriving, I decided to blog and share this unique place. This bistro is very unique as it is combination of food, wine, lifestyle retail and most unique part is the art gallery. It is located at boat quay area but the restaurant has quite a nice and peaceful ambiance compared to the surrounding. It is really a great place for friends to hangout and chill :)

Every part of the restaurant is really well decorated with art pieces. Although I am not really artistic person, I can really feel the relaxing peaceful great ambiance of the place.

There also have a wide selection of wine for those who appreciate and enjoy wine :)

There is two set of menu that is on-going promotion.

Raspberry salad: Usually salad are usually a bit sour but this is slightly sweet. The small bread piece is really crunchy and nice. They also add in grapefruit so the vegetables also doesn't have a raw taste.

Signature claypot chicken rice with truffle oil: It tastes like dumpling except they use normal rice instead of glutinous rice. It is also not greasy at all compared to dumpling. They are also quite generous with the meat portions :)

Fresh salmon ,beurre blanc & vegetables: Salmon is really well cooked well maintain the freshness though the portion seem a bit small to me. If you are ordering a set meal which comes with salad and dessert, it would be just nice :)

Pan-seared chicken thigh with pepper sauce: This is one of the best chicken I ever had. When the chef is cooking this dish, I can smell the aroma of this dish. The smell is really nice and I can tell it is going to be awesome. The meat is really well marinated to absorb the essence. The skin is really crispy yet maintaining the juiciness of the meat. I really love this dish and strongly recommend it!! Hope some days, i would be able to cook chicken similar to this standard.

Souffle with ice cream: We can hear the beating sound of the egg right after the chef prepared our meal course. It is made fresh on the spot so it would take around 20 minutes to prepare. The taste has eggy taste with slight sweetness and the texture is really soft like marshmallow. Good dessert to have after the main course. There is also free flow of Carribbean ice lemon tea which has the right amount of sweetness. We keep on drinking as it is really nice. End up going to toilet a few times ...

The service of this restaurant is really good. The staff will automatically help us to top up our drink without requesting for it. There is one friendly uncle who served us and chit-chat with us sharing a lot interesting stories :)

Overall, it is good hangout places for people want to enjoy a nice peaceful ambiance in the small corner of city :) I will definitely share this interesting and unique bistro with my friends. Can share your experience at this unique cafe too :)

Raffles hotel mooncake :)

As lantern festival is approaching, the first thing that appear on my mind is mooncake :) The first brand that come to my mind naturally is now-Skin Mooncake with Champagne Truffle & Ganache. The first time I tried this was given to my dad from his company. Every year, I never fail to buy Snow-Skin Mooncake with Champagne Truffle & Ganache from the raffles hotel.

The packaging is quite similar every year except for the color change. The color changes from last year orange to this year purple. The container is quite useful as u can use it to store other items.

Snow-Skin Mooncake with Champagne Truffle & Ganache

The texture skin is really soft and smooth. The best part is champagne truffle which just melt in the mouth giving a sweet pleasant taste. Loving every bit of it :)

Snow-Skin Tropical Tango Mooncake (new flavor this year)

Just opening the box can already smell the fruity fragrance. The centre look like a egg york but it is combination of Mango, Passion Fruit and Pineapple wrapped in a white chocolate shell. The taste is just sweet and fruity goes well with the whole mooncake. Hope they are keeping this for next year too :)

Wan He Lou Review

Location: 65 Maude Road | It is located between two mrt stations (Lavender & Farrer park). Getting to this location can be quite tricky especially from Lavender as there are quite a lot flats around this area.

The design of the restaurant is quite simple and modern. The lanterns and paintings help to give the restaurant a slight oriental feel.

Fresh green vegetable juice: I really love this drink. It is just like oasis in desert especially on hot afternoonwhen we visited the restaurant. Personally, I dislike vegetables juice and they give me a "raw green" taste but this is really awesome. This drink is made of pineapple, sour plum and cai xin and it is well blended.


Crispy Lotus with Salted Egg: Deep fried lotus coated with salted egg. It is thin and crispy with light salted taste similar to potato chip. Good for appetizers while waiting for main course.

Pan Fried Kurobuta Pork: The dish uses black pork which remind me of the famous black pork bbq which I ate in Jeju. Kurobuta Pork is tender and less oily giving it a texture compared to normal pork.  

Green Dragon Vegetables: The vegetable is imported from Cameron highland and nylon net is placed over the fully grown plant to give bright green color. The vegetable is cooked with small shrimp. It is fresh, crunchy and sweet.

Hokkaido Scallop: It is fresh Hokkaido scallop cooked with Hawthorne sauce & crunchy Asparagus.  

Signature Lobster Porridge: Award winning dish which capture many awards including the most recent "2011 Taipei Champion Cooking Contest Professional Teams Category 1st prize" It is Teochew style porridge cooked with fresh Lobster. The soup tastes heavenly good and the lobster meat is fresh & soft.

  Overall, I really enjoyed the meal and thankful for the owner time on explaining to us every dishes. I would recommend to my friends who want to enjoy affordable and good chinese cuisine especially those want to try heavenly lobster porridge.
